What is this?

HydraVeil is a multi-layer VPN with isolated browser fingerprint enviornments. You push a button and it launches a profile.

GUI

Unlike Tor Browser,

We fool Browser Fingerprinting without restricting JavaScript

Decentralized VPN

With Nostr operators, that are cryptographically verified.

Unlike a Virtual Machine,

It's instant to load and use, with no performance drag.

Angry Objections

I don't have time.

That's my point! Most people do not have time to setup QubesOS, configure browsers, deal with Tor IP address blocks, or deal with websites breaking under Tor Browser's restricted Javascript. (and login over and over from no saved cookies)

That's why Google pays Mozilla to put spyware in default Firefox.. They want you give up because you don't have time.

So HydraVeil makes anonymity effortless, and saves you time, with fast browser distribution, instant configuration without telemetry, and single-click profiles that have unblocked IP addresses and advanced security.

I don't trust you.

Exactly! That's why we made it an Open Source AppImage that doesn't require sudo, and the user can copy-pastes the single command of pre-requisites into the terminal on their own.

And then our client cryptographically verifies that the decentralized VPN operators are the Nostr social media users who we say they are.

Or if you want to keep your existing VPN still running, you can have trustless anonymity with advanced security using the no-sudo isolated layer-2 browser profiles.

Fingerprint Questions

How is this different than Tor Browser?

Tor Browser requires restricting Javascript and lies with it's words (called spoofing). It's like walking through airport security with a bag over your head, and a fake ID.

No Pic

This often breaks websites and/or causes them to haze the user.

No Pic

While as HydraVeil creates a new enviornment that realistically fools websites into thinking this is your real screen size, timezone, fonts, and many other factors. It's like getting past airport security by changing your face.

Why not just use LibreWolf or Brave Browser?

Both LibreWolf and Brave are immediately fingerprinted by Big Tech websites. A single use on a Big Tech site can brand the user across different services.

How is this different than a Virtual Machine?

Virtual Machines slow performance, consume massive amounts of resources to run, waste disc space, and make you wait to even load them up. This makes it a burden to manage and start many of them.

In sharp contrast, HydraVeil profiles have an instant load with no performance drag. Yet you still get most of the security and browser fingerprinting benefits that a VM normally would provide.

VPN Questions

What is Nostr?

Nostr is a decentralized social media, using encryption as identity. Users cryptographically sign their posts, which are distributed by relays. Because it's not tied down to any particular location, it's censorship resistant

What does a social media have to do with this VPN?

Because Nostr uses encryption as identity, we know for sure who is saying something. So HydraVeil ties Nostr social media keys to VPN keys (in WireGuard format), and then our client cryptographically verifies that the WireGuard node operator is who we claim it is.

Then the end-user picks who they trust to route different profiles through.

With system-wide through one operator, and the browser through another, it's anonymous.

How is this different than Mullvad?

Normally people in different countries have different ISPs , which is secured through SSL

No Pic

But because Mullvad's propaganda spouted by "privacy influencers" and pushed so hard on billboards, they have become the new global ISP.

No Pic

This means in the situations you think you're getting the most privacy, it's the most likely that they sees both sides of your conversations.

No Pic

Even worse, they use the largest internatonal honeypot servers, such as M247 & Datapacket, which every other VPN uses. For example, IVPN & Proton use the exact same commodity providers.

No Pic

In fact, even websites use these same providers, so it's a conflict of interest. For example Discord & Mullvad both use DataPacket. So if you use Mullvad with Discord, you're hiding from DataPacket with DataPacket.

No Pic

It's dangerous to have all human knowledge and metadata with the same companies, because Mullvad's employees in Sweden, have zero ability to stop memory dumps across the Atlanic. And these huge centralized providers are the most targeted. And the most likely have both sides of the puzzle.

No Pic

In sharp contrast, HydraVeil uses smaller hardware providers that are focused on the single country in which they operate. This gives far better legal protection against global court orders.

On top of having decentralized Nostr software operators, to prevent a single party from preciding over the data.

Technical Questions

Is this open source?

Yes, the HydraVeil client is GPL FOSS with easy to read Python. The browser source code is not modified, and the browser configurations are visible to the end-user with no code obfuscation.

How does this work on a technical level?

You do not need to know the technicals to use it, but HydraVeil creates an isolated 2nd graphical display, filesystem, networking stack with new IP addresses, fonts, canvas, and matches the timezone to the IP address. There is also more advanced security and the browsers are stripped of telemetry.
