Fingerprint Questions

How is this different than Tor Browser?

Tor Browser requires restricting Javascript and lies with its words (called spoofing). It’s like walking through airport security with a bag over your head and a fake ID.

This often breaks websites and causes user friction.

While HydraVeil creates a new environment that realistically fools websites into thinking this is your real screen size, timezone, fonts, and many other factors. It’s like getting past airport security by changing your face.

Why not just use LibreWolf or Brave Browser?

Both LibreWolf and Brave are immediately fingerprinted by Big Tech websites. A single use on a Big Tech site can brand the user across different services.

Fingerprinting 101

How is this different than a Virtual Machine?

Virtual Machines slow performance, consume massive amounts of resources, waste disk space, and make you wait to even load them. This makes managing many environments painful.

In contrast, HydraVeil profiles load instantly with no performance drag, while still providing most of the isolation and fingerprint protection benefits that virtual machines offer.

VPN Questions

What is Nostr?

Nostr is a decentralized social media protocol that uses cryptographic keys as identity. Users sign their messages, which are distributed by relays. Because it’s not tied to any single server or jurisdiction, it is censorship resistant.

Video: How NOSTR works

What does a social media have to do with this VPN?

Because Nostr uses encryption as identity, we can verify exactly who is operating each VPN node. HydraVeil ties Nostr keys to WireGuard VPN keys and cryptographically verifies node operators.

Users choose which operators they trust for different profiles.

One operator can route system traffic while another routes browser traffic, preventing any single party from seeing everything.

How NOSTR VPN works

How is this different than Mullvad?

Traditionally, people in different countries use different ISPs, connected securely via SSL.

Mullvad’s aggressive marketing has effectively turned it into a centralized global ISP.

Many privacy influencers and users share the same infrastructure, meaning both sides of communication are often visible to the same providers.

Even websites and VPNs share infrastructure providers like DataPacket, creating conflicts of interest.

HydraVeil uses smaller, country-specific providers combined with decentralized Nostr operators to avoid centralized data collection.

Phones & Routers

What devices does this work on?

HydraVeil fingerprints are designed for Linux, but the VPN service works on Android, iPhone, Windows, macOS, and any router supporting WireGuard.

Tutorials by device

Why use this VPN on my phone?

Cheap burner-style billing with decentralized operators lets you isolate your PC’s home IP from your phone’s cellular connection, preventing cross-device correlation.

Technical Questions

Is this open source?

Yes. The HydraVeil client is GPL open-source Python. Browser configurations are visible to the end-user with no obfuscation or hidden behavior.

Our code Documentation

How does this work on a technical level?

HydraVeil creates an isolated graphical display, filesystem, networking stack, and IP addresses. It synchronizes fonts, canvas behavior, and timezone with the exit node to prevent fingerprint mismatch.

Angry Objections

I don't have time

Most people do not have time to set up QubesOS, configure browsers, deal with Tor IP blocks, or fight broken websites.
Convenience always wins over perfect privacy.

Privacy without the time sink.

I don't trust you

Trust is the biggest problem in privacy tools.
That’s why HydraVeil is open source, runs as an AppImage, and doesn’t require sudo.

Don’t trust. Verify.

This will slow my internet down

Many privacy tools add latency, break streaming, trigger captchas, or make simple tasks frustrating.
Anonymity shouldn’t mean a worse internet.

Invisible, not slower.

It’s too complicated

Most privacy solutions require technical knowledge, endless configuration, and constant maintenance.
If it feels like a second job, people abandon it.

It just works.
